Hope Springs Eternal
Even the press is starting - STARTING - to see through it now:
“Yes, I need a large truck, going anywhere please.”
This legislator is one of my local representatives; the vid is from the Louisiana Legislature today. You need to Google the lyrics to “She’s Fine - Halle Berry” to play along at home.
She doesn’t even know enough about the shoulder thing that goes up to find the shoulder thing. Jeez, why did she have to say Shreveport so often? She’s busy trying to make us a laughing stock when the GM plant here is closing and we need something to take its place and this isn’t going to do anything to bring a Toyota or Honda plant in its place and, oh, hell, I need an aspirin.
the number of doctors, lawyers and indian chiefs who are openly and publicly talking about having a place to go is stunning to me. Back in the ’80s, the folks with retreats didn’t let you know about them in the first 30 minutes after you meet them… nowadays, once you get past the “yeah, I don’t like that guy in the White House either” cordiality, people just come out and tell you about their “lakehouse” with a year of Mountain House #10 cans. It’s like survivalists have discovered the “hook-up.”
How far away from home is “too far” for a bug-out “vacation home?” Let’s assume shelter, water, stored supplies in place so you won’t have to carry a trailer full of stuff when you get out of Dodge. I have a friend who is looking hard at a place that is about 6 hard-driving hours away from here; said friend wants me to go in on it with him. Very remote, securable, lots of land suitable for farming, lots to recommend it generally.
But 6 hours? I’m thinking too far.
I’m about 1/2way through with Lights Out (.PDF link); I can’t believe that I haven’t read this before. What an engaging and thought-provoking story!
